EASTWEST/QUANTUM
LEAP
ANNOUNCES ÒHOLLYWOOD STRINGSÓ
VIRTUAL INSTRUMENT ONLINE
PRESENTATION
Hollywood, JANUARY
8, 2010
— EASTWEST/QUANTUM LEAP is pleased to announce that its latest
release,
HOLLYWOOD STRINGS virtual (software) instrument, will be presented in a
series
of online tutorials on Thursday, January 14, 2010, the same day NAMM
2010 opens
at soundsonline.com/hollywood-strings.
HOLLYWOOD STRINGS is an advanced
collection of orchestral string instruments that offers unprecedented
control
over sound and performance while delivering extraordinary creative
power to
composers and content producers for film, video, web and music.
Multiple finger
positions for all sections, including open strings, are available for
the first
time in a virtual instrument collection.
HOLLYWOOD STRINGS,
as the name
implies, is a blockbuster virtual instrument that has many
groundbreaking
features not found in any other virtual strings collection. For
instance, this
collection was engineered to include multiple finger positions
throughout the
entire range of the fingerboard of each sampled instrument. This range
of
positions allows composers to realize the true voicing and emotional
content of
a string section. Vibrato intensity and extensive dynamics, including
five
dynamics of up- and down-bowed sustains and notes, are also
controllable by the
composer. Extensive multi-dynamic true legato has been sampled for all
sections
in three different categories: slurred, portamento and bow change. This
results
in unsurpassed legato performance that has never been available in the
sample
world. HOLLYWOOD STRINGS has five user-controllable microphone
positions
including main pickup (Decca tree), mid pickup, close pickup, surround
pi ckup
and an alternate vintage circa 1945 RCA ribbon room pickup, delivering
the full
range of the string experience.
ÒThe intent
with the HOLLYWOOD
STRINGS collection was to produce an extensive and musical sonic pallet
covering every nuance of string performance,Ó says Doug Rogers,
founder and
producer for EASTWEST. ÒThis collection is unrivaled in the
industry on every
level. We assembled a team to produce this collection that included
QUANTUM
LEAP producer Nick Phoenix, Thomas Bergersen, a highly respected
composer and
orchestrator in Hollywood, and the legendary sound engineer Shawn
Murphy, who
has worked on countless Hollywood mega-films from Titanic, Star Wars and Jurassic Park to em>Harry Potter and the Prisoner of
Azkaban.
The ensemble of sterling sound recordings, engineered in our
award-winning
EASTWEST STUDIO 1 with the finest by the top ÒearsÓ in
the industry, has
produced a string collection worthy of the name Hollywood, a name
synonymous
with world-leading, high-end films."
HOLLYWOOD STRINGS
will be
available in two editions from February 15, 2010:
The Diamond
Edition, the
highest level in the HOLLYWOOD STRINGS line, includes all articulations
and
bowings, five user-controllable optional mic positions, 44.1 kHz 24-bit
and
16-bit samples and comes supplied on a pre-configured hard drive. List
price
for HOLLYWOOD STRINGS Diamond Edition is $1,695.

articulations and bowings, except divisi, bow-change legato and sordino
and

dual-layer
DVDs. List price for HOLLYWOOD STRINGS Gold Edition is $1,195.

Next-Generation MPatch 2.1 Passive Volume Controller/Monitor
Switcher
January 14, 2010,
NAMM Convention,
Anaheim, CA: SM Pro Audio, one of Australia's premier designers and
manufacturers of music and audio equipment, today unveiled the MPatch
2.1
Passive Volume Control/Monitor Switcher. Designed to provide true
passive
analog control over studio monitoring systems---thereby eliminating the
loss of
bit-depth associated with digital attenuation---the third-generation
MPatch 2.1
features dual inputs with independent volume controls, a newly-designed
master
attenuator utilizing state-of-the-art 0.5% tolerance SMD resistors, a
headphone
output with separate volume control, and a subwoofer output with
variable
crossover. Both balanced combination XLR / 1/4" TRS and unbalanced RCA
inputs are provided, with input selection, mute, stereo/mono summing
operation,
and subwoofer in/out selectable from the front panel.
"Thousands of
MPatch units
are in use around the world," explained SM Pro Audio director Danny
Olesh.
"And as a company dedicated to 'solution-oriented' products, we've
taken
our users' feedback and incorporated their requests into the MPatch
2.1."
Most notable is the added support for 2.1 systems, which includes the
unique
ability to return the signal from the subwoofer back into the MPatch
2.1 and
control it, along with the left/right monitors, from the master volume
attenuator. Switches are provided to mute either the subwoofer or the
L/R
mains, making it easy to A/B mixes with and without the subwoofer. A
rear-panel
jack also allows the subwoofer to be muted via a remote control
switch.
Elegantly
simple in both
performance and operation, the MPatch 2.1 accepts dual stereo signals
from
virtually any source, including computer audio interfaces, mixers, mic
preamps,
CD players, and the like, and allows users to perform a wide variety of
level-matching, mixing, monitoring, and volume control functions-all
without
adding any coloration or noise, thanks to the 100% passive circuitry. A
few
quick minutes with the unit and it's easy to see how the MPatch series
earned
its "I can't live without it" status.
Designed for desktop or rack-mount use, the MPatch 2.1 carries a suggested retail price of $249.99. www.smproaudio.com

Sonic Reality Announces ÒNeil Peart
Drums
Vol 1: The KitÓ
The Ultimate Rock
Drums for BFD2 and Infinite Player
January 2010, Sunrise FL, USA- For the Winter NAMM show of 2010, Sonic Reality sound development company is proud to announce ÒNeil Peart Drums Vol. 1: The KitÓ, a sample library for BFD2 and Infinite Player, powered by Kontakt, as part of the Drum Masters series. Neil Peart, legendary drummer of the band ÒRushÓ, has collaborated with Sonic Reality and producer/engineer Nick Raskulinecz (Rush, Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains) to bring the authentic sound of NeilÕs ÒSnakes and ArrowsÕ Custom DW¨ Drum Kit into the digital domain. With advanced features such as deep level dynamics, humanized random alternating hits, discrete multiple mic mixing and more, this deluxe sampled kit is an ultra-realistic recreation of NeilÕs actual acoustic set as used live on tour and in the studio.
Now, for the first time, e-drummers, keyboardists and composers can play rock drum samples with the iconic signature sound of drum legend - Neil Peart and have a world-class, hard-hitting drum kit suitable for many styles of music from Progressive Rock to Heavy Metal! Producer Nick Raskulinecz engineered the sample sessions with over 20 channels of Neve¨ mic preamps, deluxe vintage tube mics and multiple room positions for one of the most elaborate sampled drum kits ever. With the assistance of Don Lombardi and DrumChannel.com, every detail of ÒThe KitÓ was captured both in high-resolution audio and documented on video with a thorough explanation by Dave Kerzner of Sonic Reality on how the drums were sampled.
ÒTo sample Neil PeartÕs incredible drum kit for our Drum Masters series was truly an honor and it fit perfectly with our focus on capturing the most desirable character drum sounds.Ó Says Dave Kerzner, CEO of Sonic Reality. ÒWeÕre also honored to be able to record it with ÔRushÕ producer - Nick Raskulinecz to help us capture the authentic, signature Neil Peart drum sound.Ó
ÒThe KitÓ features 8 Toms, a vast array of cymbals including 3 Chinas, 4 Crashes, 3 Splashes, Ride, 2 Snares, Massive Kicks, Percussion - such as Cowbells and more. It comes mapped in GM, iMapª, V-Drum and a Custom Map mode to be controlled by any electronic drum kit. It includes both discrete mic mixing and album-quality presets right out of the box for instant gratification.
ÒNeil Peart Drums Vol 1: The KitÓ will be available in standard and deluxe size versions for FXPansionÕs BFD software and for Sonic RealityÕs Infinite Player software powered by Kontakt.

Sonic Reality Announces Drum Masters 2-
Multi-Track
The most realistic
emulation of a studio drum session in a plug-in
January 2010, Sunrise FL, USA- As a follow up to the cutting-edge Drum Masters 1 series, Sonic Reality sound development company is pleased to announce the new ÒDrum Masters 2 SeriesÓ featuring the flagship Infinite Player virtual instrument ÒDrum Masters 2 Multi-trackÓ powered by Kontakt.
ÒDrum Masters 2 Multi-trackÓ is the only drum plug-in to provide discrete mic mixing for both drum kits and live played audio Rexª grooves mapped across the keyboard. This combination of kits and grooves played by some of the best drummers in the world offers the most realistic emulations of studio drum sessions in a plug-in.
Now in version 2, grooves can be selected from a scrolling keyboard menu and mapped along-side the kits in a Òperformance modeÓ that allows both to play on the same midi channel and be routed through the same 16 individual outs for seamless transition between midi played kits and live-played audio grooves. For the nuances of style and realism, authentic live grooves were performed by master drummers such as Jerry Marotta (Peter Gabriel), John Blackwell (Prince), Danny Gottlieb (Pat Metheny Group), Ed Greene (Steely Dan) and Nick DÕVirgilio (Tears for Fears). These audio drum loops are unique, time-aligned multi-track Rexª loops that can be triggered from the keyboard and they automatically snap to your hostÕs tempo while still being able to mix individual mic channels. This is an elastic live studio drum session itself, but to customize drum parts to your song - we also provide the midi-playable drum kit from the session.
The Drum Masters 2 Multi-track drum kits are now mapped in GM, iMapª, Performance, V-Drum and a Custom map mode with midi learn. Now Drum Masters 2 is compatible with any midi controller – keyboard, pads or e-drums of all brands and models. Each kit features a proprietary new ÒRound RobinÓ feature that randomizes alternate hits of the drum to avoid machine gun effects and to provide greater realism. Instant easy control of each performance articulation is provided, as well as ready-made presets for instant gratification right out of the box. Now with built-in non-destructible DSP effects, swappable kit pieces for unlimited custom Òhybrid kitsÓ and a new low price, Drum Masters 2 Multi-track aims to provide an expandable virtual drum studio sound source for any musician.
ÒDrum Masters 2 Multi-track is the
flagship product for a
massive series weÕre doing on drums for our Infinite
PlayerÓ says Sonic
Reality CEO Dave Kerzner. ÒIn
2010, we also have titles featuring Neil Peart, Bill Cobham, Terry
Bozzio and
other drum legendsÕ kits with the same feature layout so it is
easy to learn
once and apply to allÓ
Drum Masters 2 Multi-track comes with Infinite Player, Sonic RealityÕs expandable ÒgatewayÓ library module within the Native Instruments Kontakt Player 4 software for playing the best of Sonic RealityÕs vast sample archives of both drums and other instruments from around the world. The software works stand-alone for the Mac and PC, as well as a plug-in for ProTools, Cubase, Logic, Sonar, Digital Performer, Live and every major DAW today. The Infinite Player sounds also work inside the player or in the full version of Kontakt 3.5 or higher.
Price for Drum Masters 2: MSRP $299, Street $249.

Sonic Reality Announces Drummer Tracks for Jamming
Song length drum loops
for guitarists and musicians to jam to
January 2010, Sunrise FL, USA- With all of the advanced drum software out there, what about good old-fashioned Òplay alongÓ drum tracks for any musician to jam to? Sonic Reality, co-creators of music software products like Drum Masters, EpiK DrumS-A Ken Scott Collection and Ocean Way Drums¨, have gone to the complete opposite extreme of simplicity by Introducing ÒDrummer TracksªÓ, song-length grooves for jamming. Designed for guitarists, bassists, keyboardists, songwriters and other musicians who just want to play along with professional drum tracks for songwriting inspiration, practice, play-along performance and fun, Drummer Tracks offer the same high-quality drum sounds that Sonic Reality is known for, without any technical learning curve (except knowing how to play your instrument to jam along).
Drummer Tracksª titles are like albums of
music, except
theyÕre just the drum tracks -minus the music. You provide the
music by playing
along with any instrument from guitar to violin, to vocals to keys. Jam
live
with any audio media player or built up overdubs and create a new song
in your
DAW faster than ever. Drummer Tracks are longer than traditional drum
loops and
include the natural feel and subtle tempo drift of live playing, as
well as
fills and performance variations.
ÒThese drums are not meant to lock to your
sequencer, they
are meant for getting that real human feel, just like you would have
playing
with a live drummer.Ó Says Dave Kerzner, CEO of Sonic Reality.
ÒItÕs a
different approach that I enjoy playing to just as much as the perfect
loop.
With surprise fills and variations, it really feels like jamming along
with a
real drummerÉ but without the lip. Just kidding!Ó
Whether you drag and drop the included CD-quality waves into your DAW of choice or you put the included mp3 versions onto your iPod Touch or portable mp3 player, Drummer Tracks are as simple to use as hitting the play button. Ableton and
Serato
present The Bridge at
Winter NAMM
2010
Berlin, Germany,
(January 14,
2010) - Ableton and Serato are proud to announce The Bridge at NAMM
2010 in
Anaheim, California. The Bridge spans the gap between music production
and
DJing, creating a natural link between Ableton Live and Serato Scratch
Live/ITCH. The Bridge provides a powerful fusion of DJ and production
tools,
opening a world of opportunities for DJing, remixing and live
performance.
The Bridge works in
both
directions:
Ableton to Serato
The Bridge provides
Ableton
Transport Control (ATC), giving DJs turntable-style control of their
own
multitrack productions. DJs can simply drag an Ableton Live Set onto
one of the
decks in Scratch Live or ITCH and use their turntables, CDJ or ITCH
controller
to control the transport.
Serato to Ableton
The Bridge provides
the
ultimate mixtape creation tool. DJs can perform mixes in Serato Scratch
Live or
ITCH and save them as an Ableton Live Set. This way, the DJ can still
perform
the mix—better than cut and pasting it together in a
DAW—but also
has detailed editing options.

Ableton news at
NAMM 2010: the
APC20, a new controller in association with Akai Professional
Berlin, Germany,
(January 14,
2010)—Ableton and Akai Professional are pleased to announce the
APC20, Akai
Professional's second dedicated controller for Ableton Live. Following
in the
footsteps of the hugely successful APC40, the APC20 offers musicians,
producers
and performers freedom from the keyboard and mouse, providing a fully
integrated hardware-software musical system for creative composition
and
performance. It also features the APC40's multicolor 8x5 button Session
View
Matrix, eight high-quality faders and two-way communication with
Ableton Live.
The APC20 also features three modes of operation, built-in
customization
features and a number of smart new tricks. The APC20 was co-developed
by
Ableton and Akai Professional.
Here is an overview
of the
features and functions of the Akai Professional APC20:
Big grid, small
footprint
The APC20 is a
slightly smaller
version of its big brother, the APC40, with the same 40-button grid for
direct
access to the clips in Ableton Live's Session View. Perfect if you're
already
using multiple controllers, short of studio space or working on a
budget.
Power-up the APC40
APC40 owners can
hook up an
APC20 and automatically access 16 tracks and an enormous 80-button
grid, thanks
to the new "Combination Mode." It's also possible to run up to six
APC20s together.
High-quality,
feel-good
hardware
The name Akai
Professional
suggests quality, and the APC20 certainly delivers. From the
multicolor,
LED-backlit buttons to the traction on the faders and the road-worthy
metal
casing: the APC20 is tactile, rugged and responsive.
Note Mode
Note Mode lets you
use the
button grid for sending MIDI data instead of launching Session View
clips.
Flexible faders
Apart from
controlling track
levels, the APC20's faders can be instantly switched to control pan or
multiple
sends—no mapping required. Additional user banks let you assign
the faders
to tempo, effects wet/dry, global tempo or anything else you want.
Customize!
Apart from the user
banks on
the faders, producers and performers can customize the APC20 to their
own,
personal workflow using Ableton Live's simple MIDI mapping function.
Control
any function in Ableton Live with any part of the APC20.
Pricing and
availability for
the Akai Professional APC20
The Akai
Professional APC20
will be available at music stores worldwide in the second quarter of
2010.
Please note that the APC20 cannot be purchased in the Ableton webshop.

Live Akai Professional APC Edition

Professional APC20

Professional
APC Edition, with eight audio and eight MIDI tracks, multiplied by
twenty
Session View scenes. Combined with Live's powerful effects, this makes
for a
capable out-of-the-box solution for studio and stage.

MOTU
announces major
upgrade to Ethno Instrument
ETHNO INSTRUMENT
VERSION 2
OFFERS 21 GB OF WORLD/ETHNIC SOUNDS
NAMM SHOW 2010,
ANAHEIM, CA
— Saturday, January 16, 2010. MOTU has announced a major upgrade
to Ethno
Instrument, their popular world/ethnic virtual instrument software for
Mac OS X
and Windows 7/Vista. The Version 2 upgrade more than doubles the size
of Ethno's
included sound library of instruments, loops and phrases. Significant
new
features have also been added, including preset searching, microtonal
scales,
state-of-the-art time stretching, and much more.
"Ethno Instrument
Version
2 delivers the most comprehensive world/ethnic sound library ever
offered in a
single package," said Jim Cooper, MOTU Director of Marketing. "In
addition, Ethno 2 represents the most advanced virtual instrument
interface for
ethnic sounds, with unparalleled features such as in-depth support for
microtonal scales and tuning."
New sounds abound
in Version 2
from Asia, Africa, Europe, the Balkans, the British Isles, Latin
America,
Australia, and many other locations around the globe. Featured sounds
include
taiko drums, large African drums, thirty new instruments from India,
hundreds
of urban India loops (in they style of Slumdog Millionaire), Balkanish
voices,
Arabic voices, Persian voices, an extensive new collection of gongs and
bells,
extended cymbalum, and much more.
To help users
quickly find
sounds in this massive 21 GB library, Ethno 2 lets users browse presets
by
geographic region or instrument category, or by a new search feature:
users
type in an instrument name or other text phrase and all presets with
that text
in their name instantly appear in the browser list. Users then simply
click to
audition sounds, without having to close the browser, for fast
previewing and
loading of sounds into separate parts. Version 2 now supports unlimited
parts,
so users can quickly build ensembles of instrument sounds, loops and
phrases,
with no limits on the size of the ensemble.
Ethno 2 gives users
access to
the rich and exotic world of non-western tuning and scales. Users can
browse
dozens of microtuning presets from all over the world, organized by
world
region or by scale type, and then play authentic non-western tempered
scales of
any size (from five tones to 24 tones) via any standard MIDI
controller. The
supplied microtonal presets were developed by a world expert in
micro-tuning
and conform to the Scala open file standard (.scl) for microtuning.
Users can
visit the scala web site, http://www.huygens-fokker.org/scala/,
browse
thousands of microtuning files, download them for free, and simply drag
and
drop them into Ethno 2 to add them as user presets. Scales can be
freely
applied to any instrument presets, allowing users to mix and match
microtuning
scales with sounds from anywhere around the globe. For example, a
microtuning
scale from Thailand could be applied to a Celtic harp sound from
Ireland.
Since its first
release, Ethno
has been recognized for its extensive tempo-matching features. Loops
always
play in time with each other and the host application, when running as
a
plug-in. Version 2 extends these time-stretching capabilities with
enhanced,
state-of-the-art audio processing technology licensed from the famed
IRCAM
institute for advanced research in Paris. Users can speed up, slow
down, or
match tempos of loops and phrases with unprecedented audio quality,
even with
extreme changes in speed, either faster or slower. Time stretching
presets are
provided for various types of material (vocals, percussive, etc.) to
further
maintain excellent sound quality at all tempos.
Other Version 2
feature
highlights include:
Enhanced effects
processing
— includes new modeled analog EQ, CPU-optimized convolution
reverb and eight
new analog modeled filters (rez, comb, analog and more).
Keyswitch presets
—
dozens of new, richly-layered keyswitch (KS) presets in all categories
for
ultra-expressive performance.
Version 1
compatibility —
Ethno 2's new sound library is compatible with Version 1, so music
programmed
with Version 1 presets can be loaded and played with Version 2.
Latest-generation
UVI Engine
— provides state-of-the-art virtual instrument performance,
64-bit native
operation and robust compatibility with the latest Mac OS X and Windows
operating systems, plus the latest DAW hosts.
Ethno Instrument
Version 2 will
ship in Q1 of 2010. Price is $395. An upgrade path will be offered for
Ethno
Version 1 users.
FabFilter
releases Micro:
a mini filter plug-in
for a mini
price
AMSTERDAM,
The Netherlands, January 18, 2010. Determined to
provide quality plug-ins for every
need and budget, FabFilter has released the tiny,
yet very useful FabFilter Micro, a new lightweight
filter plug-in that makes the
classic FabFilter sound more affordable than ever. Featuring the
classic filter
first developed for the FabFilter One
synthesizer with low-pass and high-pass filter shapes, it will
be
no surprise that FabFilter Micro
has a smooth and creamy sound that will
turn into raw self-oscillating madness at a flick of the Peak
knob.
Yet even at full resonance, the
filter always maintains an analog-like
balance, happily saturating and clipping the incoming sound
without exhibiting the digital artifacts
and
impurities that most other filters
suffer from. The built-in envelope follower offers more creative
filter
effects by letting you modulate
the filter cut-off frequency depending on the amplitude
of the incoming signal. Furthermore, the separate
input and output gain controls
make it easy to amplify or reduce the internal filter
saturation at will by adjusting the level of the
incoming signal before it hits the
filter internals. Naturally, FabFilter Micro contains all those
FabFilter
goodies that you've come to
expect: perfectly fine-tuned knobs and controllers,
interactive MIDI Learn, undo/redo and A/B switch, Smart
Parameter Interpolation for smooth
parameter transitions, an extensive help file with
interactive help hints, sample accurate automation, and
AltiVec and SSE optimization.
FabFilter Micro is now available for just EUR 15, USD 22 or GBP 14. It can be used on Windows and Mac OS X in
VST and VST 3, RTAS and Audio
Units plug-in formats. Bundles with FabFilter Micro and other
FabFilter plug-ins are also
available.
See www.fabfilter.com/shop.
Existing FabFilter customers can purchase FabFilter Micro with a discount by logging in to their online
user account: www.fabfilter.com/myaccount.
System requirements for FabFilter Micro on Windows are Windows 7, Vista, or XP, SSE-capable processor,
and a VST 2 or VST 3 host or Pro
Tools. On Mac, the system requirements are Mac OS X 10.6, 10.5
or
10.4, Intel or G4/G5 processor,
and an Audio Units host, VST 2 or VST 3 host, or
Pro Tools.

Announces ReValver
MK III.V Amp Modeling Software
Peavey proudly
announces the
next version of its acclaimed ReValverª amplifier modeling
software, ReValver MK
III.V, which debuts nine new amplifier and effects models. Developed by
veteran
tube-amp maker Peavey Electronics, ReValver is a revolutionary
amplifier
modeling software that captures the true characteristics of vacuum
tubes while
allowing users unprecedented control over their tonality and gain
structures.
Peavey ReValver MK
III.V will
feature the debut of the Peavey 3120ª, Peavey Masterpieceª,
Peavey Sensationª,
Budda¨ SuperdriveªII, and Budda Superdrive V Series amplifier
models. New
effects models in ReValver MK III.V are the classic Peavey VCL-2ª
tube
compressor and the Budda Budwahª expression pedal. All of the amp
and effects
models and deep editing popularized by ReValver MK III are also
available in MK
III.V.
ReValver utilizes
an exclusive
algorithm that analyzes the interactions of the amps' components at the
circuit
level, based on the original schematics. By mapping these amplifier
models from
the component level, ReValver is able to model every nuance with
amazing
accuracy, allowing players to design their ultimate custom amps and
speaker
systems.
As advanced as
ReValver's
modeling algorithms are, operating the models can be as simple or
in-depth as
the user desires. The software GUI is intuitive and easy to use, with a
drag-and-drop interface where users can add and subtract individual
components
and devices such as amplifiers, preamps, power amps, stomp boxes and
effects.
Unlocking
ReValver's
groundbreaking customization tools is also easy. By right-clicking on
an amp
model, users can "go inside" and adjust the amp's tones and
components on the Tweak Module GUI. This allows users to change, add or
subtract tubes on all amplifier models, and then calibrate even the
voltage
parameters of those tubes. In all, users can alter more than 15
elements and
functions on each tube stage, with as many as 17 different preamp and
power
tube types to choose from. Users can also modify power amp rectifiers,
output
transformers and tone stacks.

Santa
Barbara, CA: The worlds biggest, baddest sampled drum library just got
even
bigger and badder, thanks to the addition of a full 11 Gigabytes of new snare drum samples. Essentially a
sneak-peek
at Mixosaurus's
forthcoming
Kit B, the two new snares---a TAMA 14" x 6.5" Starclassic Wood
Bubinga and a TAMA 14" x 4" Starclassic Brass---expand Kit A's sonic
range with lower/fatter and higher/snappier timbres. The bonus snares
are
included at no charge with new Kit A v1.2 units, and are offered as a
free
upgrade for current Kit A owners (a nominal shipping fee is charged).
Since
its release, the 122GB/80,000-stereo sample Kit A has
been the darling of the music press, garnering accolades ranging from
"...without a shadow of a doubt, the most detailed and comprehensive
sampled drum instrument ever created" to "prepare to be totally blown
away." Most recently it was awarded Electronic Musician magazine's 2010
Editor's Choice Award for "Best Sounds."
With
the additional snares, Kit A now comprises over 140GB of
uncompressed 24-bit recordings. The samples are organized into 1,800+
Kontakt
Player patches, which provide control over multiple parameters,
including
dynamics, filter, envelope, and tuning. Up to seven alternating samples
are
available for each and every sound in the entire library. Up to 64
individual
patches can be loaded into a single Kontakt Multi, with both stereo and
multi-channel output bussing.
The system, which
comes
pre-loaded on its own high-speed hard drive (external or internal), is
available for both Mac and PC, and supports VST, AU, RTAS, DXi, and
stand-alone
Kontakt Player formats. To afford musicians instant access to the vast
array of
material, KIT A is compatible with a variety of standard MIDI drum map
formats,
including Addictive Drums, BFD, DFH, EZ Drummer, and General MIDI.
Mapping
support for popular e-drum kits, such as those by Roland and Yamaha, is
also
provided.

Native
Instruments
Introduces ABBEY ROAD 60s DRUMS
Berlin, January
25th, 2010 - Native
Instruments today introduced ABBEY ROAD 60s DRUMS, the first instrument
created
in its collaboration with the iconic British recording studios.
Recorded using
sophisticated engineering techniques and exclusive vintage gear, ABBEY
ROAD 60s
DRUMS provides a versatile arsenal of classic drum sounds with absolute
tonal
authenticity, supreme playability and immense sonic flexibility. For
use in the
free KONTAKT PLAYER and the industry-leading KONTAKT 4 sampler, it
provides a
unique resource for typical Sixties sound aesthetics as well as for
modern pop,
rock and urban music styles.
ABBEY ROAD 60s
DRUMS features
two quintessential drum kits of the Sixties era, a Gretsch and a
Ludwig, which
were recorded in painstaking detail utilizing Abbey Road's profound
engineering
expertise and outstanding arsenal of vintage equipment. Classic AKG,
Neumann
and STC microphones from the studios' famed microphone collection, the
exclusive REDD.17 and EMI TG mixing desks, a valve-based Studer tape
machine
and other authentic outboard gear all contributed to the charismatic
sound of
ABBEY ROAD 60s DRUMS.
With up to 30
velocity layers
per instrument, each utilizing up to six randomly selected variation
samples,
as well as separate left- and right-hand samples and individually
adjustable
snare bleed, ABBEY ROAD 60s DRUMS delivers ultimate authenticity both
for
DAW-based rhythm programming and for real-time MIDI-controlled drum
playing. To
cover both classic and contemporary sound aesthetics, users can choose
between
"vintage" and "modern" microphone setups, and select
separate "tea towel" samples for an even more distinctive, punchier
sound. A special room microphone configuration was used to fully
capture the
outstanding acoustic room sound of Abbey Road's famous Studio Two, with
the
ambience individually adjustable for each instrument.
The concise user
interface of
ABBEY ROAD 60s DRUMS makes full use of the advanced GUI features of the
KONTAKT
platform, with convenient controls for articulation, sound shaping,
mixing and routing
functions. Advanced randomization features can even add additional
subtle
nuances to the tone and timing, making it sound completely organic and
virtually indistinguishable from a conventional studio-recorded drum
performance.

Mirek
Stiles explaining the recording process at Abbey Road Studios is
